Michael D. Peck
Chief Executive Officer

Michael D. Peck is Managing Partner of the Open Prairie Ventures Kansas City office. As one of three partners, Mike is responsible for portfolio and deal management, and fund raising for the firm’s early-stage, life science, agricultural and technology-focused, funds. During his tenure at Open Prairie Ventures, Mike has served on the boards of four portfolio companies, including KCBioMedix, Inc. in Shawnee, Kansas. Mike and his team most recently received a $5M allocation from the Kansas Bioscience Authority for investment in the firm’s current fund – bringing the total capital under management for the Open Prairie Ventures family of funds to $65M.
Prior to joining the firm, Michael served at the Kansas Technology Enterprise Corporation, and managed the firm’s investment fund while assisting with legislative matters. Prior to KTEC, Mike was a senior executive for two early-stage dot-com era technology companies in Los Angeles and San Francisco. Before those stents, Mike worked in the Chicago and San Francisco offices of Accenture, in the firm’s strategic management consulting practice advising clients such as Hewlett Packard, Compaq Computer and Nordstrom.
Michael currently serves as treasurer on the board of directors for the Johnson County (Kansas) Library Foundation and was the former Alum Director for the KC Kellogg Alumni club. He is also the member representative of Open Prairie Ventures to the National Venture Capital Association and the Mid-America Healthcare Investors Network. In 2006, Michael was named to Ingram Magazine’s “40 Under Forty” class. Michael has also served as a judge for the prestigious Midwest region Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of The Year Award in 2009 and 2010. He received a BS degree in Engineering from the University of Kansas, an M.B.A. degree from the Kellogg School of Business at Northwestern University and a Master’s of Engineering Management degree from the McCormick School of Engineering at Northwestern University.
D. Michael Litscher
Co-Founder, President and Chief Operating Officer
Mr. Litscher co-founded KCBioMedix® in 2006 and served as the company's first CEO. Prior to 2006, he was a General Manger with the biotech firm, Serologicals Corporation, where he was responsible for the start-up of its Lawrence, KS operation. His other roles have included Chief Operating Officer/Vice President of Operations and board member for Lasersight, a surgical laser manufacturer and GM/VP of Operations for Frantz Medical. Mr. Litscher was also a member of the management team responsible for the start up of the CT and MRI businesses for General Electric Medical Systems. His senior management experience is complemented by over 30 years of medical device experience in operations, quality systems and regulatory compliance. Mr. Litscher earned his BS in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Arizona and his MBA from the University of Wisconsin.
David Stalling, PhD
Co-Founder and
Chief Technical Officer
Dr. Stalling is also a company co-founder . In his early career, he was an industry pioneer and leader in the fields of instrumentation and chromatography, filing a total of thirteen related patents, publishing 85 articles and successfully launching a number of new products and companies. Among his various roles he has been COO of Primus (now Trinity Bioscience), CEO of Laboratory Automation, (an ABC Labs Spin-off) and SVP/Co-founder of ABC Labs, a leader in the field of chromatography. As a NASA Pre-Doctoral Fellow, his research methodology and instrumentation were used in the search for life molecules during the Apollo 11 - 15 Lunar Missions.
Bruce Richardson
Chief Financial Officer
Mr. Richardson has rich and diverse business background including CFO of WorldWideWeb NetworX, Inc., a publicly traded technology holding company; CEO of IONet Solutions, a start-up networking security company; and CFO of several large operating divisions at AT&T. His financial and business expertise extends to a variety of fields including assessment and valuation of new business opportunities, management of turn-around situations, raising capital for new ventures, and creating innovative business strategies for optimizing operational performance.
Monty W. Hukill
Vice President, Sales
Mr. Hukill has over 20 years of experience in medical device sales and management. His most recent position was VP of Sales with NeuroMetrix, a neurodiagnostics device manufacturer, where he was instrumental in growing sales form less than $3 million to over $40 million. Monty has significant expertise in creating successful sales strategies and developing channels to sell
complex capital equipment into the hospital market. Over his career, he has worked with five medical device start-ups, including both i-Stat and Chiron, where he gained experience in the neonatal care market. Mr. Hukill graduated from Texas A & M University with a BA in Biology.
Barry Price
National Director of Marketing and Business Development
Mr. Barry Price joined KCBioMedix, Inc in April, 2008. Mr. Price will utilize his past medical device experience to direct the commercial functions of KCBioMedix, Inc to achieve business objectives. Most recently, Mr. Price was Director of OEM business for BSN Medical and COO of M-PACT Worldwide, LLC. In these roles Mr. Price was responsible for all phases of business management, including implementing ISO Systems, MRP Systems, and launching products worldwide. In addition, Mr. Price has held significant business and product development roles for Abbott Diagnostics, Serono Diagnostics and Smith Kline Bechman, bringing to worldwide markets new medical devices along with supportive products and services. Mr. Price was responsible for developing product design goals and then working with R & D Teams, Manufacturing Operations and Advertising Agencies to develop and launch new medical devices worldwide while simultaneously developing and staffing marketing and sales organizations worldwide to achieve financial goals and objectives. Mr. Price has an MBA and a degree in Microbiology.
